Cosmos DB should enforce TLS 1.2 or higher

High Azure General cosmosdb-min-tls

Applies to

  • Microsoft.DocumentDB/databaseAccounts

What CGPulse checks

A resource passes this rule when minimalTlsVersion must be one of ["Tls12"]. Anything else is reported as a finding with the evaluated property value attached as evidence.

How to fix it

Set minimum TLS version to 1.2 to prevent protocol downgrade attacks. In Azure Portal: Cosmos DB > Settings > set Minimum TLS version to 1.2. See: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cosmos-db/self-serve-minimum-tls-enforcement

CLI

az cosmosdb update --ids "{id}" --minimal-tls-version Tls12

Terraform

resource "azurerm_cosmosdb_account" "{name}" {
  name                = "{name}"
  resource_group_name = "{rg}"
  location            = var.location
  offer_type          = "Standard"
  kind                = "GlobalDocumentDB"
  minimal_tls_version = "Tls12"
  consistency_policy {
    consistency_level = "Session"
  }
  geo_location {
    location          = var.location
    failover_priority = 0
  }
}
